The Unicorn

For Nur Abir Greene

I am no unicorn
but the cat that comes to sit on my bed
loves me just the same,
and from my window – the sun.

Obscured by trees –
we shan’t complain;
they make patterns upon the wall.

I have decided that lampshades
are inefficient;
Still, we’re all our own suns.

More light is always
welcome;
we count every bird and star.

I taped Tom and Jerry
for you to watch on your return.
